Another victim of the global semiconductor chip shortage is Hero Electric, as it posted zero vehicle dispatches in April 2022. This is majorly concerning as Hero Electric accounts for 34% of the total EV sales in India.
In a recent press release, Hero Electric has stated that due to supply chain restraints and zero dispatches in April, waiting period for customers is now over 60 days, and some of the dealerships have no stock to display.
Hero has reported sales of 1,00,000 units in FY22; and with this stop in production due to the chip shortage, it is now working to ramp up production capacity at its Ludhiana and Pitampur plants, and also to optimise the supply chain. Additionally, the company says it is conducting audits of the battery production factories to ensure the safety of battery systems. Along with Hero Electric, the semiconductor chip shortage has also affected industry giant Bajaj as we have reported earlier this week.
Amid recent EV safety related incidents reported across the country, Hero Electric observed April as Battery Safety Month, wherein dealerships made consumers aware of the best practices in handling batteries and observing performance red flags by themselves. You can also see why EVs catch fire and how it can be prevented.
Meanwhile, Hero Electric has assured that it has geared up alternate sources and would soon resume production.
