This render of the Kawasaki 450TR looks pretty much on point, and will also be Kawasaki’s answer to the Honda CL500, if Kawasaki decides to make one

Scramblers are a hot topic in India these days with the recent unveiling of the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, which is set to be launched in October 2023. And now, renders of a 400cc as well as a 250cc scrambler from Kawasaki have surfaced online. Boy, do they look on point!

We all know the age-old rivalry of Honda and Kawasaki. So, Honda has the CL300 and CL500 scramblers on sale overseas, which are based on the Rebel 300 and Rebel 500’s platform. Additionally, the manufacturer had also filed a patent for the CBL300 in India a while back.

So, with Honda using the Rebel’s platform to develop the scrambler, speculation is growing that Kawasaki might do the same by using the Eliminator 400’s platform to develop a 250cc scrambler, possibly called the 250TR. If so, then this will be a nod to the iconic Kawasaki 250TR Bison from the 70s. There’s also the possibility of Kawasaki bringing out a 400cc version of the scrambler, likely called the Kawasaki 400TR. It will be the perfect response to the Honda CL500 as well as the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 400X, don’t you think?

The smaller 250TR might also have the advantage of having an extra cylinder provided Kawasaki downsizes the Eliminator 400’s parallel-twin engine. That will give it an edge over the Honda CL300, which uses a single-cylinder mill. The 400TR will also have the advantage of an extra cylinder compared to the Scrambler 400 X.

So, if developed, will any of the Kawasaki scramblers come to India? Chances of it happening are very slim. But as mentioned above, with the hype around scramblers on an all-time high in India, and apart from the Scrambler 400 X, we will also see a scrambler from Royal Enfield, called the Scram 440. You can read all about it here. Even the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 will get a scrambler derivative in the future!
