Hyundai i20’s turbo petrol variant only gets dual-clutch (DCT) transmission now.
The 1.2-litre NA petrol and 1.5-litre diesel variants continue unchanged.
i20 N Line still gets a 1-litre turbo petrol engine with iMT and DCT options.
The i20 retails from Rs 7.18 lakh onwards, turbo petrol starts at Rs 10.11 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai has rejigged the turbo petrol variants of its premium hatchback, the i20. The clutchless manual transmission (iMT) is gone, and the turbo petrol can only be had with a dual-clutch automatic (DCT). While the DCT is the sportier transmission, the iMT was a budget alternative, a sort of middle-ground between a stick-shift and fully automatic transmissions.
The i20 continues to offer three engine options – a base-spec 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, a 1-litre turbo petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel unit. Even with the reduction of a transmission option, there are still four transmissions on offer, including two different manuals!
The base engine gets a five-speed manual (MT) as standard with the option of an iVT (CVT) automatic. The diesel unit gets a six-speed manual gearbox, and the turbo petrol engine only gets a seven-speed DCT.

In terms of sheer power output, the turbo petrol wins out, but the diesel unit isn’t far behind with its 100PS power and 240Nm torque outputs.
The i20 currently retails from Rs 7.19 lakh to Rs 11.84 lakh. Here’s a breakdown of the engine-wise prices:

Rs 7.19 lakh to Rs 10.91 lakh |
1-litre turbo petrol DCT |
Rs 10.11 lakh to Rs 11.84 lakh |
1.5-litre diesel |

Although the iMT wasn’t as quick-shifting or convenient, it did help bring down the enthusiastic turbo petrol variant’s price. The entry-level iMT turbo petrol model cost Rs 8.88 lakh before being discontinued. But the DCT variant, now priced from Rs 10.11 lakh, makes the turbo petrol less accessible by Rs 1.23 lakh over the iMT.
Hyundai hasn’t rejigged the i20 N Line’s variants, and its drivetrain-wise prices are as follows:
Engine option |
Ex-showroom price |
1-litre turbo petrol iMT |
Rs 10.16 lakh to Rs 11.19 lakh |
1-litre turbo petrol DCT |
Rs 12.12 lakh |
Excludes dual-tone variant pricing
Equipped with the iMT, the i20 N Line’s base-spec variant's price is within spitting distance of the standard i20 hatchback’s entry-level turbo petrol model. If you don’t mind rowing your own gears, the clutchless manual N Line offers racy aesthetics, a sportier suspension setup and a rorty exhaust note over the standard i20.
The Hyundai i20 goes head to head with the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz.
