On September 28, 2021, Tata Motors achieved a new feat, rolling out the 1,00,000th Altroz hatchback from its Pune plant. According to the carmaker, the Altroz managed to crawl its way up to the second spot in the premium hatchback segment in FY 2022, with a total market share of more than 20 percent.
In related news, Tata Motors last week rolled out its 10,000th EV.
The Tata Altroz was launched in January 2020, and despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the hatchback has been able to achieve this milestone within 20 months of its launch. In March this year, it registered its highest single-month sale of 7,550 units, with an average monthly sale of around 6000 units in this fiscal.
The premium hatchback is underpinned by the ALFA ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture, and has a five-star crash test safety rating from the Global NCAP.
On achieving this milestone, Mr. Rajan Amba, Vice-President, Sales, Marketing & Customer Care, PVBU, Tata Motors, said, “We are pleased to share that we have crossed a major milestone during these challenging times and are grateful for the constant support and loyalty of our customers and partners. The Altroz occupies a pride of place in our New Forever range offering a wide variety of options in the premium hatchback segment. With multiple achievements in its kitty, the Altroz reflects true international standards of safety, design, performance and overall experience. The feat of 1,00,000th rollout today, is yet another testament to success of the Altroz in a challenging segment like premium hatchback. From becoming the official partner in IPL 2020, to being the lead car for some of India’s most prestigious marathon events, to becoming the fitting choice of reward to our Olympians this year, the Altroz has won everyone’s hearts. With increasing recognition from Indian consumers and earning incremental market share, we are confident that Altroz is poised for even more success in the future.”
The Tata Altroz packs a 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, iRA connected car tech, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, climate control, rear AC, height-adjustable driver seat, and tilt steering. Other highlights include auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, 90-degree opening doors, and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Safety is taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensor with parking camera.
The Tata Altroz comes in three engine options: 86PS/113Nm 1.2-litre Revotron petrol, a 110PS/140Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, and a 90PS/200Nm 1.5-litre diesel. All three mills are paired with a standard 5-speed manual. The hatchback is available in seven broad trims and a recently launched Dark Edition, like the Harrier.
Tata retails the Altroz from Rs 5.85 lakh to Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It takes on the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, and Honda Jazz.
