BMW has revealed the new-generation of the 2 Series Gran Coupe globally ahead of its expected India launch sometime in early 2025. The updated 2 Series, when launched in India, will be the most affordable BMW on our shores, positioned below the 3 Series in the German carmaker’s India lineup. With the new iteration, BMW has updated the 2 Series in almost all aspects giving it a fresher and a more premium appeal.
In this article, we will be taking you through its exterior, interior, features, powertrain and expected price in comparison with the current 2 Series that BMW offers in India.
Let’s begin:
The new 2 Series’ fascia gets heavy refreshments, including new design elements that are in line with BMW’s new design language. For starters. It sports a kidney grille – a signature on BMW cars, but unlike a few, it’s rather scaled. The LED headlights receive a tweaked look with new elements inside it. The bumper gets a more minimalist design now which looks cleaner when compared to the outgoing model.
The 18-inch alloy wheels get a new design, and you also get optional 19-inch alloy wheels. The silhouette of the 2 Series remains the same, but the length of the coupe has been increased from 4526 mm to 4546 mm. There is a slight (25 mm) increase in the height as well, but the wheelbase remains the same. For perspective, you can expect it to be nearly as long as a Honda City or a VW Virtus.
The sporty-looking sloping roofline merges neatly into the rear which gets an updated look as well. The LED tail lights are now more aggressively styled as compared to the current model which gets a sleeker look. It looks rather angry and ready to bite from the rear, and completing its looks are the shark fin antenna and lip spoiler on offer.
The updates are not just restricted to the exterior, as the cabin too gets plenty of upgrades. You now get the new curved display which merges seamlessly with the digital driver’s display. The new system is powered by the latest BMW OS 9. The AC vents have been updated as well, and are similar to the ones that we see on the BMW 5 Series. Apart from that, there are minor revisions in the lower centre console and you now get sportier-looking colour shades for the upholstery.
There are new features added to the 2 Series which further accentuate the premiumness of the interior. It boasts a large infotainment unit, a Harman Kardon audio system, auto dimming IRVM, wireless phone charger, a panoramic glass roof, and a dual-zone climate control. Moreover, it also gets features like a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, multi-colour ambient lighting. The front seats are heated and powered, while the sports seat can also be optioned with a massage function.
In terms of safety, it gets airbags, cornering brake control, ABS with brake assist, parking sensors, electronic stability control and a couple of ADAS features.
While the global model will be offered with multiple powertrain options, we do not know which one would make its way to the Indian version. Currently, the 2 Series is offered in India with a 190 PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 190 PS 2-litre diesel engine. Now, let’s take a look at the powertrain options on the globally revealed model.
