India-spec Jeep Compass Is Now A Diesel-only Offering, Petrol Discontinued Temporarily

• Jeep Compass Petrol discontinued until further notice.

• The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine was only available with an automatic before discontinuation.

• The Compass is now available with a sole 172PS 2.0-litre diesel engine.

• Current prices range between Rs 21.44 lakh and Rs 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom)

After removing the petrol manual powertrain option from the Compass’s lineup, Jeep has now temporarily stopped bookings of all petrol-powered variants of the Compass. No exact reason has been given for this halt and we don’t know whether it could be reintroduced sometime soon.

The entry level price for the Jeep Compass’s petrol trims was slightly higher than its concurrent diesel variants. This is because the petrol powertrain was only available with an automatic, while the diesel variants had a manual transmission, making them relatively cheaper.

Before getting taken off the shelves, the petrol powertrain used to comprise a 1.4-litre turbo unit and it used to be paired to a 6-speed manual (discontinued previously) or a 7-speed DCT. The only available powerhouse is now the very familiar 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is geared using either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic. An all-wheel-drive system is available with its automatic variants.

The midsize SUV continues to pack features like 10.1-inch infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats as well. Safety features will include six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control.

With the petrol variants being unavailable for the time being, the prices for the Compass range between Rs 21.44 lakh to Rs 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom). It continues to rival the VW Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross, Skoda Kodiaq and Hyundai Tucson.
