The Glanza gets a relatively small price hike, but the Hyryder’s heftier premium indicates its introductory pricing is coming to an end

Toyota has hiked the prices of its entry-level Glanza hatchback and the Hyryder SUV’s hybrid variants. Despite the hike, the entry-level Hyryder hybrid remains the most affordable strong-hybrid vehicle (HEV) you can buy, comfortably undercutting the Honda City hybrid and the Grand Vitara’s strong-hybrid variants.

Broadly, the Hyryder gets two engine options – a Suzuki-sourced, 103PS 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine and Toyota’s own 1.5-litre petrol unit. The Toyota engine powers the strong-hybrid version of the Hyryder which has a combined output of 116PS. The K15C engine powers the mild-hybrid and CNG variants of the SUV.

Toyota Glanza Prices

The Glanza, Toyota’s entry-level offering in India, gets a relatively minor price hike. The base variant now costs Rs 6.66 lakh, Rs 7,000 more. The mid-spec automatic variants, S and G AMT,  get the maximum hike at Rs 12,000. But the top-spec V AMT variant’s price is unchanged. The CNG variants are priced Rs 2,000 higher, starting at Rs 8.43 lakh for the Glanza S CNG model.

The Toyota Hyryder rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and the MG Astor. For now, the strong-hybrid’s only direct rival is the Grand Vitara’s strong-hybrid version. Meanwhile, the Glanza competes with premium hatchbacks such as the Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz
