The latest creation by American manufacturer Janus Motorcycles is a handbuilt bike that perfectly encapsulates the charm and grit of the motorcycles from the 1920’s. The Janus Halcyon 450 is priced at USD 13,500 (around Rs 10.31 lakh), which is a really high asking price. However, you do get a one-of-a-kind, personalised motorcycle for it.
The Halcyon 450 looks stunning, there is no two ways about it. The long and slim fuel tank is tastefully done and replicates those on vintage 1920s motorcycles to the T. Adding on to the retro look are the circular headlight setup, long mud guards, twin pod cluster and bobber-style single seat.
Powering this classic motorcycle is a SWM 445cc air-/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which is also the bikemaker’s first fuel-injected engine. The Halcyon 450 is not aimed at being a fast set of wheels, and produces a relatively sedate 30PS and 36Nm, along with a top speed of 144kmph.
With a dry weight of 156kg, the Halcyon 450 offers a great power to weight ratio, and will be more accessible to different kinds of riders due to its lightweight.
The bike is suspended on a proprietary leading-link fork with coilover Ikon shocks up front and a proprietary cantilever coilover Ikon shocks at the rear. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes with Brembo callipers on both ends, with a two-piston setup in the front and a single-piston unit at the rear. The bike rolls on 18-inch wheels.
The vintage motorcycle is not completely old school when it comes to features and comes packed with a digital instrument cluster with tachometer, odometer and speedometer, and an electronic ignition.
The Janus Halcyon 450 is a beautiful looking vintage motorcycle that also packs certain modern-day practical features and equipment, and would make a great collectible bike, even with its supremely high price tag.
