Jeep India’s answer to the full size SUV titans like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq is set to be Meridian. It’s a three-row SUV based on the Compass’s underpinnings and platform. Ahead of its expected launch in June, here’s everything you need to know about the Meridian in detailed images:
At a glance, you’d think it's just a stretched Compass since the two are based on the same platform. But you’ll notice a bit of Grand Cherokee at the front with a distinct front bumper, featuring a connecting chrome bar. The seven-slat grille and sleek headlights are Compass-like.
Head over to the sides, and the Meridian gets a nice, boxy, and upright stance, giving it an SUV-esque vibe.
Improving its stance are the 18-inch alloy wheels exclusive to the Meridian, with the squared-off wheel arches adding to the Meridian’s strong presence.
At the rear, you’ve got a boxy and upright design with a neat dose of character lines. What stand out here are connected LED tail lamps, which add a tinge of modernism.
Head inside, and you’ll notice the cabin layout is pretty much a straight lift from the Compass, albeit with a brown/black cabin theme. There’s also a bit of brown inserts on the dashboard and door trims.
The biggest difference between the Compass and the Meridian is the latter having a third row. The setup is a three-seater bench for the second row and a two-seater for the third row, with cooling vents and recline adjustment. But the third row looks more suitable for your kids or pets to hop onboard.
It will come with all the bells and whistles from the Compass such as a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with ventilation, a 9-speaker Alpine sound system, powered tailgate, wireless phone charger, and auto headlights and wipers.
Passenger safety will be covered by six airbags as standard, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ABS with EBD.
Under the hood, the Meridian will initially get the Compass’s 170PS 2-litre diesel engine, paired with a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic gearbox. A front-wheel drivetrain is standard, while all-wheel drive will be an option limited to the automatic transmission. We’ve recently had our first taste of the three-row SUV, and you can check our first drive review for more details.
Bookings for the Jeep Meridian will commence soon with deliveries expected to start post its slated launch in June. It is likely to be priced from Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
