[UPDATE: Yezdi has launched three new bikes in India, Keeway K-Light 250V cruiser, Vieste 300 maxi-scooter and the Sixties 300i retro scooter. Full details in our launch story]
European-registered Chinese bikemaker Keeway is all set to make its debut in India as the company has released an official teaser announcing its arrival.
Keeyway belongs to the Qianjiang Motors, the conglomerate that owns Benelli as well. Infact, after acquiring Benelli, Keeway’s product portfolio has been developed by the Italian bikemaker’s engineering division. From technology sharing to brand penetration, the two brands work hand in glove. Benelli in India has managed to amass a fairly large fanbase, and so it only makes sense for Keeway to follow suit. But what does this mean for us Indians?
While it’s still unclear on which models will make their way to our shores, the invite teases with a silhouette of a cruiser motorcycle’s tail section. Based on our guesses on the same, we think Keeway could introduce a bigger version of its K-Light 125, powered by a 500cc engine borrowed from Benelli’s existing 502C. Given that the 502C’s 500cc engine is BS6 compliant, it makes most sense for Keeway to pursue its arrival using this platform. Sharing components with Benelli would be a huge helping hand for the brand as it eyes the Indian market.
The two-cylinder, liquid cooled engine makes 47.5PS and 46Nm, and is mated to a six-speed gearbox, but we’d be happy if the engine was tuned to match the character of the Keeway. The new model is likely to be called Keeway K-Light 500 and should be priced around Rs five lakh (ex-showroom).
The Keeway could go up against motorcycles like Kawasaki Vulcan S, Kawasaki Z650, CFMoto 650NK and its own cousin, the Benelli 502C.
