Will make its racing debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race

Lamborghini is no stranger to souping up the Huracan to become a racing machine as the carmaker’s Squadra Corse motorsport division has been doing it since 2014, starting with the Huracan Super Trofeo. After that came the GT3 in 2015, as well as the GT3 EVO in 2018. Now, the folks at Sant’Agata Bolognese have unleashed the Huracan GT3 EVO2. To put it simply, it's a Huracan STO that isn’t constrained by street-legal norms, and is unabashedly a supercar for the racetrack.

The important bit that the Huracan GT3 EVO2 still retains from its predecessor and the STO is the Squadra Corse naturally aspirated 5-litre V10 engine, paired to a rear-wheel drivetrain. What’s changed in the EVO2 is it now gets 10 electronically-actuated throttle bodies to increase the V10’s efficiency with titanium valves. This system only needs four screws to bolt on to the engine for easier access and maintenance work.

Compared to its predecessor, the Huracan GT3 EVO2 complies with the 2022 FIA technical regulations and comes with a host of aero changes. For starters, its body is entirely made out of carbon fibre. The aero changes include new splitters and diffuser for better aero efficiency. Notice the hexagonal roof scoop? Well, it's inspired by the STO, and is connected to a snorkel which provides better airflow into the engine. Adding on a Huracan STO-style rear wing with better supports means you get all the downforce you need to remain glued to the racetrack.

Speed can’t be achieved without safety. And so, Lamborghini has plonked in a redesigned roll cage, with two rear pillars, and new carbon-Kevlar honeycomb side panels in compliance with the FIA 2022 regulations. The plexiglas side windows get better structural integrity thanks to them being fixed to the carbon fibre door panel by means of a ring of screws. Other cool performance trickery includes a better braking system with new pads and callipers.

It is slated to make its racing debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race. It can be availed as an all new model or an upgrade pack for existing Huracan GT3 EVO owners. Deliveries are scheduled to commence by the second half of 2022.

Those wondering if this is the second new variant for the Huracan, the GT3 EVO2 is purely a racecar.  So  it's unlikely to be the upcoming model that’ll mark the swansong for a pure ICE Huracan before it goes the hybrid route by 2024
