Lamborghini To Bid Adieu To Pure-combustion Engines With An All-terrain Huracan

2022 has been a year of goodbyes for fire-spitting V12s and V10s, and even Lamborghini is jumping on the bandwagon by bidding farewell to its pure V10 combustion engine, following the production of the last pure V12 powered Aventador.

The model carrying the last non-hybrid powertrain from Sant'Agata Bolognese will be an off-roading derivative of the Huracan. It was first showcased as a one-off concept called the Sterrato, followed by a teaser video, and is now finally coming to reality by the end of this year.

An all-terrain Huracan means Lamborghini must have reworked a substantial number of components to make the bull off-road ready. The model in the teaser sits higher than a standard Huracan and has two auxiliary lamps on the front bumper for better visibility. Other notable elements are the rugged wheel arches, roof rails, and a roof scoop that up the ante on its rugged looks. 

The Lamborghini Sterrato will bring down the curtain on an eight-year run of the pure V10-powered Huracan, which has seen numerous derivatives throughout its lifetime, playing around with its design and tweaking the V10 for more power. We’ll have to wait and see what output range the V10 in the ‘all-terrain’ Huracan will produce.

Lamborghini is not the only high-performance marque to create an off-roading sports car, as Porsche also has a concept 911 project car that recently scaled the world’s highest volcano in Chile. The Lamborghini Sterrato will break cover before this year’s end. It will be the end of the line for Lamborghini’s pure V10 units, which will be replaced by hybrid powertrains for future models.

The replacement for Huracan’s bigger sibling, the Aventador, is already in the works and is rumored to get a V12 engine paired to a hybrid system. The same can be expected for the Huracan’s replacement, although it'll pack a V10 instead of a V12 unit.
