After displaying them at EICMA 2019, Italian manufacturer Lambretta has finally launched the G350 Special, the pre-production version of which was named the G-Special, and X300 scooters in its home country.
While the company had plans to go electric in late 2019, those plans are uncertain now, with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Ukraine-Russia war and semiconductor crisis. So let’s feast our eyes on these gorgeous scooters for now:
The G350 Special was showcased as the G-Special at EICMA 2019. The production scooter now gets a 330cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine with 26.15PS and 25.5Nm on tap, putting it 7.45PS and 3.5Nm ahead of the Keeway Sixties 300i sold in India.
This retro-looking scooter has several modern bits. It comes with a TFT display, LED lighting, 240mm disc brakes at both ends with ABS as standard. Other componentry include 120/70–12 (F) and 130/70-12 (R) tyres and a 9.5-litre fuel tank. A dry weight of 173kg leaves the scooter on the heavier side.
While Lambretta was tight-lipped and gave no more details about the scooter, we know the company has given the G350 Special a steel monocoque frame and interchangeable side panels as promised at EICMA.
The G350 Special retails at 7,200 Euros, translating to approximately Rs 5,98,176, making it quite an expensive scooter, especially considering the fact that its direct rival, the Vespa GTS300 costs 700 Euros (approximately Rs 58,168) less.
The X300 features taut and angular lines and is reminiscent of the wishbone-style scooters of the past.
At its heart is a 275cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine making 25.14PS and 24.5Nm. Apart from the dual channel ABS, 12-inch tyres and full LED headlights, the X300 also gets a keyless starter system as standard.
That said, Lambretta has cut costs by giving the scooter a semi-monocoque frame, smaller 220mm and 219mm disc brakes at the front and rear, respectively, and a 7-litre fuel tank. The scooter tips the scale at 165kg (dry). Retailing at 5,900 Euros (approximately Rs 4,90,197), it’s more affordable than the G350 Special.
Deliveries for both scooters are expected to commence later this year. Sadly. the X300 and G350 are unlikely to make their way to India. But, if you’re looking for retro-style scooters, you could check out the Vespa VXL 150 and Vespa SXL 150. If you’re looking for something more affordable, you could check out the Yamaha Fascino.
