The South African Jimny looks similar to the model sold on our shores, with a familiar front end featuring a slatted grille with chrome elements, and round LED headlights. Even the side profile and rear is largely similar to the India-spec model, which you can check out in our image gallery.
The Africa-spec Jimny 5-door’s dashboard design is similar to its India-spec counterpart, maintaining the retro theme with an analogue instrument cluster and rotary dials for climate control. The dashboard is user-friendly, featuring chunky controls for window switches and other options. It also comes with fabric seat upholstery.
It features a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, and connected car tech. Safety features include up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, brake assist, and ISOFIX mounts for the child seats.
The South African Jimny 5-door is powered by a similar 1.5-litre petrol engine, producing 102PS and 130Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. It drives all four wheels and features Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4x4 drive system along with other off-roading hardware such as a 3-link rigid axle with coil springs.
In India, the Jimny is priced from Rs 12.14 lakh to Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha, both of which are currently offered in their 3-door versions only.
