Made-In-India VW Taigun Passes Latin NCAP Safety Test With Flying Colours

The made-in-India Volkswagen Taigun has passed the stringent Latin NCAP crash safety test with a full five-star rating. Reassuring, as though the Latin NCAP is much more stringent than Global NCAP, the Taigun passed the latter with flying colours. Though the tested Taigun was made in India, it was decked with ADAS, something which we don’t get on our shores. 

The Volkswagen Taigun was assessed in four parameters: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Pedestrian Protection (PP) and Safety Assist (SA). 

Adult Occupant Protection - 92 Percent

In the frontal impact test, the Taigun offered good protection to both front occupants’ head, neck, knees, and tibias. That said, shielding for the driver’s chest was rated marginal while the same for the co-driver was good. Its bodyshell and footwell area was deemed stable, with the former capable of taking further beating. 

In the side impact test, the compact SUV offered good protection to the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis. And while it offered marginal protection to the chest in the side pole impact test, the head, abdomen and pelvis protection was rated good.

Child Occupant Protection - 92 Percent

This is another area the Taigun showed its mettle. Both the three-year-old and 18-month-old dummies were fitted on rear-facing child seats with a support leg and offered full protection. Latin NCAP also appreciated the fact that the Taigun had ISOFIX mounts with clear markings as well.

Safety Assists - 83 Percent 

The Taigun tested by Latin NCAP had Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and its performance was satisfactory as per its criteria. Also, the Taigun was applauded for the fact that it gets electronic stability control as standard and three-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants. And lastly, in the moose test, the SUV reached a maximum speed of 85kmph, which is again good. 

Pedestrian Protection - 55 Percent

This is an area where the Taigun didn’t perform as well as it did in the other criteria, mainly because upper leg performance was poor. However, the protection offered for the dummies’ lower legs was rated good. Also, it offered good, marginal and adequate protection to other areas. However, another point it loses out on is the fact that Autonomous Emergency Braking is an optional piece of equipment, so Latin NCAP didn’t assess it in this regard.
