Multiple variant options to further expand its accessibility

Mahindra is all set to launch the Thar 5-door SUV in India on August 15, 2024, and these latest spy shots of the SUV give a sneak peek into the three different variants it could be offered with. The three camouflaged test mules can be seen sporting different wheels and provide a glimpse of the changes they could carry over each other.

Base Variant

It is evident from the spy shots that the base variant will be offered with steel rims as seen in the images. Obviously, it will also miss out on prominent comfort features and will be packed only with the essentials. And another point to note is that you can expect this version to just get a manual gearbox option.

Mid-Spec Variant

As per the images, we reckon the mid-spec variant will get a 5-spoke alloy wheel design. In terms of features, yes, it could be packed with an infotainment system, steering-mounted controls, and other niceties as well. We also hope Mahindra packs it with a sunroof to keep it more accessible. One can expect this version to get an automatic transmission as well.

The higher trims of the Thar 5 door, as seen in the images will be offered with a 10-spoke wheel design, previously seen with a dual-tone finish. Older spy pictures also showed that  it will get a full LED headlight setup and many new features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a digital driver’s display. .

The Thar 5 door is expected to be powered by the same 2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 150 PS and the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine producing 130 PS, as seen on the 3-door Thar currently on sale, but with more power. Like the smaller car, you can get to choose from either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Expect an increment in the pricing over the 3-door variant, which starts at Rs 11.25 lakh ( ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the soon-to-be-launched Force Gurkha 5-door and will be a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny
