Mahindra Thar 5-door India Debut On August 15

Those eyeing for the Mahindra Thar 5-door, we have some good news. The SUV marque will reveal the larger off-roader in India on August 15, considering that Mahindra has sent us an invite. It is a day which Mahindra typically reserves to unveil its highly anticipated and brand new models and we are 100 percent sure it's for the Thar 5-door this year. One can expect its price announcement to happen a couple of weeks after its debut, just like the Thar 3-door. 

Obviously, the main design change for the Thar 5-door is its elongated length and an extra set of doors. But apart from that, previous test mule sightings have revealed the presence of LED headlights, a redesigned grille, dual-tone alloys and redesigned LED tail lamps. 

On the inside, the dashboard design isn’t all that different when compared to the smaller model. That said, it will come packing with premium features such as a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system. Also, it will get a single pane sunroof as well. In terms of powertrain choices for the Thar 5-door, we suspect Mahindra to offer the Thar 3-door’s 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol and  130PS 2.2-litre diesel engines, probably with more power. You can expect it to be offered with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission choices as well as rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains. 

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to be priced above the Thar 3-door, which starts from Rs 11.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the upcoming Force Gurkha, while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
