The recently launched Mahindra XUV 3XO (facelifted XUV300) has entered the sub-compact SUV segment with its refreshed design and unique features. With plenty of rivals in this segment, the XUV 3XO receives tough competition from the Hyundai Venue. Here’s how these two subcompact SUVs rack up against each other on paper:

When comparing standout features, the Mahindra XUV 3XO edges slightly above the Hyundai Venue. This advantage comes mainly because of the inclusion of a segment-first panoramic sunroof, ADAS L2 suite, and dual-zone climate control. The Hyundai Venue on the other hand gets features like a dash-cam, which is absent in the XUV 3XO. Notably, the infotainment screen size is smaller in the Hyundai Venue when compared to the 10.25-inch unit on the XUV 3XO. A premium Harman/Kardon sound system can be found in the top-spec XUV 3XO, while the Venue offers a regular 6-speaker sound system.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO and Hyundai Venue both provide petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. However, Mahindra offers two variations of the turbo-petrol engine, the second one equipped with direct injection for improved performance. The Hyundai Venue on the other hand offers a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine and a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Mahindra XUV 3XO

The 3XO, has greater torque across its engine variants compared to the Venue. While the Venue provides two transmission options for its turbo-petrol engine, DCT and IMT, the XUV 3XO presents one manual option along with a newly introduced torque converter automatic. Both SUVs offer manual transmission options with their diesel engines, with the XUV 3XO also featuring a diesel automatic variant.

According to the price table, the Mahindra XUV 3XO emerges as a more cost-effective option when compared to the Hyundai Venue, boasting a lower price tag at the entry level (by Rs 50,000). The higher-level variants, though, are more expensive in the XUV 3XO, with the top-spec AX7L costing nearly Rs 2 lakh more than the top SX(O) trim of the Venue, but that is justified with the inclusion of plenty of upmarket features.

Competitors of both of these sub-4 metre compact SUVs in the segment include the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor and the Kia Sonet.
