The Toyota Taisor is the latest rebadged offspring of Toyota and Maruti. It is based on the Maruti Fronx, and apart from a few cosmetic tweaks, these cars are literally identical. From their cabin layout, to their features to even the powertrain options – exactly identical.
Previously we had only had the chance to test the Maruti Fronx’s turbo-petrol manual powertrain for its real-world performance figures. The automatic variant was left untested, but we’ve now had a change to put the Taisor’s turbo-petrol automatic to test. So if you were wondering what’s the performance difference between Maruti’s boosterjet’s manual and automatic powertrains, this story is for you:

The 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, as mentioned earlier, is the same in both the Taisor and Fronx.
They come with the same transmission options too: a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Let’s see how they perform:

100-0kmph |

42.81m |
Pretty close, but no surprise that the manual Fronx has an edge over the Taisor automatic. The manual is just six tenths quicker than the automatic in the sprint from 0-100kmph. The automatic makes some time back in the quarter mile test, with the difference coming down to just .36 seconds between the two.
The braking test too goes in the favour of the manual Fronx, as it stopped 1.52 metres earlier than the Taisor AT. Note, that the results would be the same if this test was done with the Fronx AT, instead of the Taisor.

The Maruti Fronx retails between Rs Rs 7.51 lakh and Rs 13.03 lakh. The top-spec variant pricing of the Taisor and Fronx are identical, however, the non-turbo variants of the Taisor are slightly dearer. As a result, the prices for the Taisor start from Rs 7.73 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
