India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has revealed its plans for the country’s largest upcoming motor show, the Auto Expo 2023. And yes, the news is exciting. Now, before we say anything, Maruti said that it will debut two SUVs (they didn’t give a name) and an electric SUV concept. But we are quite certain that the two SUVs Maruti specified will be the Baleno-based crossover and most importantly, the much awaited Jimny 5-door. Maruti will also showcase the flex-fuel powered Wagon R that recently debuted in the country at the Auto Expo.

Maruti Suzuki will be previewing its first electric SUV for India as a concept at the Auto Expo 2023. Not much details about it at the moment, but we do know that this electric SUV will be in the size of a Grand Vitara, which is around 4.3 metres long, and the production version will break cover in 2025. More details about the SUV will be revealed as we inch closer to the event, so stay tuned.
The Maruti SUV that might make the most noise in the show floor will be the debut of the much awaited Jimny five-door. It’s basically an extended version of the three-door Jimny slapped on with extra doors to make it that much more practical. And yes, Maruti has been pretty much roughing it out at all sorts of terrain, including the Himalayas, during its testing phase. So expect it to be as potent as the three-door model when it covers going over the broken stuff. To know more about the Jimny, check out this detailed report.

The carmaker will be showcasing the flex fuel powered Wagon R that was recently unveiled in India at the Auto Expo show floor. The hatch has been modified to run on any ethanol-petrol blend between 20% (E20) and 85% (E85) fuel. This hatch is very important for the carmaker as it plans to make all of its models E20 compliant by March 2023, while it’ll be taking the wraps of a flex-fuel powered compact model in 2025.
Last but not least will be Maruti’s new crossover that will be based on the Baleno hatchback. It will fill the gap left between the Baleno and Brezza in the carmaker’s lineup. Spy shots have indicated that it will get exterior styling elements from the Grand Vitara, while the interior will be largely similar to the Baleno hatch. And along with the naturally aspirated petrol engine, the peppy 1-litre turbo-petrol engine developing around 100 horses is expected to make a comeback. More details about the Baleno-based crossover here.
We also have one more news that isn’t Auto Expo related. Rather, it’s the development of Maruti’s version of the Toyota Innova Hycross, which will probably be the most expensive Maruti yet. And yes, you’ll be able to see it in its flesh sometime in mid 2023..
These are the highlights from the recent Annual Media Event the carmaker announced. So which car are you waiting for? Let us know in the comments.
