Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Gypsy: Which Name Would You Want For Maruti’s Upcoming Offroader?

A recent spy shot of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door has confirmed that the carmaker will not be renaming it the desi nameplate, the Gypsy. Rather, the carmaker will continue to call the upcoming model the Jimny indeed. This might sound a bit disappointing for a handful, who were expecting Maruti to resurrect the Gypsy name tag for its upcoming off-roader, or it isn’t? 

Well, we set out to find the same thing in our Instagram poll, where we asked our viewers whether they are happy with the Jimny nametag or if they would like to see the Gypsy name make a comeback. And here are the results:

This was one incredibly tight fought battle until now with all the polls having gone live. A total of 333 contestants had participated, and a 56 percent majority wanted the Gypsy name to be resurrected. However, 44 percent of our viewers were still happy with the Jimny name. 

The fact that the Jimny is finally coming to India is a celebration of its own. We all have been waiting for this for a while, with  constant spy shots rubbing salt on the wound. However, Maruti announced its bringing two new SUVs to Auto Expo 2023, and one of them is expected to be Jimny.

The Jimny is expected to go on sale by mid 2023 after its unveiling at Auto Expo 2023. Prices are expected to range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the upcoming Force Gurkha five-door and Mahindra Thar five-door.
