McLaren has formalised its India entry and will open its first retail outlet in Mumbai in October. The carmaker had announced plans to set up operations in the country in May last year, with the McLaren GT and 720S as its first models. The McLaren Artura and 765LT Coupe and Spider will join the lineup soon.

The McLaren range starts with the GT, a low-slung grand tourer that’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine tuned for 620PS and 630Nm. That’s enough for a top speed of 326kmph and a 0-100kmph time of 3.2 seconds.

New McLaren 765LT coming soon

The 765LT will be available in Coupe and Spider (convertible) variants, each powered by a 765PS and 800Nm 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. It gets to 100kmph from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds, and on to 200kmph in 7 seconds! The 765LT is the more hardcore version of the 720S which is renowned for its blistering performance in an easy to use package.

Despite being longer and wider than the 720S, the 765LT is a full 80kg lighter. In fact, at 1,339kg, it weighs about the same as a Hyundai Creta, but with over five times the power!

McLaren Artura specs

The Artura hybrid supercar will soon debut in India, slotting between the GT and 720S. It’s powered by an all-new 3-litre V6 turbo petrol engine paired with an 8-speed auto ‘box and plug-in hybrid system. It’s as fast as you’d expect, with a 0-100kmph time of 3 seconds and a top speed of 330kmph. But it’s a supercar that can be driven silently in EV mode for up to 30km.

McLaren’s supercars are being imported as completely built-up units and cost a hefty premium over their overseas counterparts given the high customs and import duties in India. They rival equally fast and similarly pricey supercars from Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini in the country.
