Mercedes Vision EQXX Concept Will Be The Most Efficient Benz EV

Mercedes-Benz has announced the digital reveal of its most efficient vehicle, the Vision EQXX, on January 3, 2022. A prototype will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas in the US, to demonstrate the carmaker’s most cutting-edge innovations in improving efficiency. 

Not much is known about the concept vehicle, but the image from Mercedes shows a sleek four-door sedan with a distinct coupe-like roofline. It seems to have a downward sloping rear reminiscent of the Coke bottle styling of 1960s American cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette C3. Other than that, the Vision EQXX has seemingly normal LED headlights, wing mirrors and flush-fitting door handles similar to those seen on the EQS electric sedan. 

Mercedes’ concept is part of the carmaker’s research and development program for electric vehicles. It demonstrates the strides made in battery efficiency and the use of lightweight and sustainable materials. The Vision EQXX is expected to have a 1000km driving range, higher than most globally available EVs. 

Mercedes Vision EQXX will probably have a similar-sized 107.8kWh battery as the EQS luxury electric sedan with better range. The better range could be down to new battery tech, and the powertrain is also likely to be more energy-efficient than we’ve seen in production Mercs. We might also see a higher peak DC charging current for the new battery pack. The EQS currently allows for up to 200kW of current, and it helps recover 300km of range in just 15 minutes. 

Aerodynamic efficiency might also be a key highlight in the Vision EQXX. For reference, the EQS is one of the slipperiest production vehicles with a drag coefficient of 0.2. In addition, it is likely to feature interiors made from sustainable materials such as upcycled plastic waste.
