1000km of range is possible despite the battery pack having a capacity less than 100kWh.
It gets a 210PS electric powertrain, and solar panels, which offer another 25km of range.
Sleek design makes it one of the most aerodynamically efficient cars in the world with a drag coefficient of only 0.17.
Aerodynamic wizardry includes movable elements at the front, wheel covers, and an active rear diffuser.
Cabin gets a massive 47.5-inch wide digital screen with 3D navigation.
Will serve as a blueprint for a future production model.
The covers are finally off the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX electric concept, the carmaker's take on a future electric sedan. Is it the most efficient Merc ever? We decode that in this story:
The biggest party trick is undoubtedly the Vision EQXX nailing the efficiency department. By this we mean it is capable of going 1000km on a single charge, basically doing a Pune to Goa trip and back without breaking a sweat. This achievement is impressive considering it uses a battery pack that has a capacity less than 100kWh. Interestingly, Mercedes claims the battery pack is 30 percent lighter than the one present in the EQS.
What does help its range figures is the electric powertrain, which puts out 201PS. Aside from electric power the Vision EQXX also takes assistance from the sun with solar panels on the roof, enough to give it about 25km of range.
The efficiency factor doesn’t stop there, and extends to the design. Mercedes-Benz had already veered into the silky smooth design philosophy with the EQS, but the Vision EQXX takes that to another level. By that we mean, it is one of the most aero efficient models, with a drag coefficient of just 0.17. While the teardrop shaped body does help to make that possible, the Vision EQXX has a few aero tricks up its sleeve. There’s moveable elements on the front bumper, sleek wheel covers, as well as an active rear diffuser.
As for how it looks, the Vision EQXX goes down the sleek and minimalistic route, with a downward sloping rear reminiscent of the Coke bottle styling of models from the 1960s. Notable bits include funky headlights connected by an illuminated bar, as well as a minimalistic rear end with connected tail lights spanning the entire rear of the electric sedan.
The Vision EQXX’s sleek nature continues inside, with a fairly minimalist cabin that looks production-ready. If you thought the EQS’s Hyperscreen setup was big, the one in the Vision EQXX spans a whopping 47.5-inches wide, making up the entire cabin. It supports 8k resolution, and comes equipped with nifty tech such as a 3D navigation system that can provide satellite view up to a height of 10 metres. The cabin is also ‘green’, utilizing sustainable materials such as biosteel silk-like fiber, vegan leather, animal-free leather and bamboo-based carpets.
The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX may just be a concept at this point, but we’ve been teased with quite the efficient future in terms of range and aerodynamics. The best part in all this? It already looks very close to being a production-ready model, so our fingers are crossed on its hopes in the electric sedan going to production.
