At Rs 3.35 crore, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is one of the most expensive products in the German carmaker’s India portfolio. While it might not be at the top of the price list, it definitely is second to none in terms of the sheer grandeur and opulence. So this, the facelifted model, gets minute changes – both in terms of styling and features – over the outgoing model. Let’s see what the newly launched Mercedes-Maybach GLS is all about:
Mercedes-Maybach GLS Styling
Modest changes to the Maybach GLS’ styling have somehow managed to up the ante on its already governing presence. The tweaked front bumper and humongous grille with the vertical slats commands immediate attention. If it isn’t apparent enough already, you now get small Maybach emblems flanking the air dam on the lower bumper.
The never-ending side profile is unchanged, though, and the already distinctive 22-inch alloy wheels can be replaced by even bigger 23-inchers. And the generous amount of chrome adds to the bling along with the Maybach emblem on the D-pillar… just in case you forgot.
Changes at the rear come in the form of the slightly redone bumper styling. It feels less in-your-face than the flashy front styling elements. But there’s still plenty of things commanding attention: the sheer stance, the chrome elements, and the stylish (but fake) vents.

Yes, it’s still <add your own different and fancy synonyms for utmost luxury here>. Not much has changed inside the Maybach GLS, save for the new steering wheel. The dashboard styling is unchanged with the same quad AC vents in the middle, and the mismatched vents flanking the dash.
No 7-seater here, it’s just a 4-seater configuration, which gets the executive seats for that lounge-like feel. Tap a button on the door panel, and the seats move about to give you a comfortable resting stance. Pair that to the hefty sound insulation and the banging 13-speaker Burmester sound system and you’re cocooned in a bubble of sheer comfort. We can bet good money that the equivalent Rs 3.35 crore villa won’t have seating as comfortable or a sound system as plush as the Maybach GLS 600!
To name a few features, there are dedicated screens for the rear occupants, seat heating and ventilation (all four seats), electric sunblinds, four-zone climate control, wireless phone charging and a panoramic sunroof.
Mercedes-Maybach GLS Powertrain
Out goes the six cylinder and in comes the eight-cylinder V8 engine for the flagship GLS variant. Output figures stand at 557PS and 730Nm from a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system. Courtesy of the electrification, you get 21PS of additional (though temporary) boost in case you need to humble someone at a redlight drag race.

And humble it can, with a 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds. Mind you, this is a 3 tonne-plus luxury barge we’re talking about, so that number is more than decent. Power is delivered to all four wheels via Mercedes’ trademark 9-speed automatic gearbox. These specs are unchanged in comparison to the outgoing model.
With this update, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS doesn’t push boundaries or redefine any norms but it still gets all the fantastic things we expect from a Maybach GLS. It just refines what already was a very scrumptious package, sitting in a space with few rivals like the Range Rover SV, Bentley Bentayga, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
