MG has introduced the Blackstorm edition for its Hector mid-size SUV, following in the footsteps of the Astor and Gloster SUVs. Priced at Rs 21.25 lakh, this special edition is exclusively available on the one-below-top Sharp Pro trim of the Hector. It's also an option for the 7-seater Hector Plus SUV. The Blackstorm edition draws inspiration from the Tata Dark editions, featuring a similar aesthetic treatment. Here’s a detailed look at the all-black treatment given to Hector.
The Hector SUV's striking design is further intensified with the all-black treatment. This makeover removes the chrome elements from the grille and makes way for a black-chrome treatment given to the blingy grille and the badging.
Adding to the sportiness, the optional dealer-fitted accessories include red highlights for the headlight housing and ORVMs.
In profile, the Hector can be seen sporting 18-inch all-black alloy wheels with red brake callipers.
The rear looks similar to the regular Hector, with no specific changes save for the black chrome badging.
The Hector Blackstorm edition’s interiors have been given an all-black treatment as well. Instead of a dual-tone interior colour scheme, the Blackstorm edition gets all-black interiors and red accents to be in contrast with the exterior.
Regarding the features, there haven't been any significant revisions, as the Hector already boasts a plethora of features such as a 14-inch portrait-style infotainment screen, connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, red ambient lighting and footwell lighting, powered tailgate, and ventilated front seats.
The safety features remain unchanged and include six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, ADAS technology, and electronic stability control.
The Blackstorm edition can be opted in both its engine options: the 143 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and the 170 PS 2-litre diesel engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered with the diesel variant, while the petrol variant exclusively features a CVT transmission; there's no manual option for the turbo-petrol engine.
The introduction of the Blackstorm edition for the Hector puts MG in a strong position to compete with Tata's Dark Edition SUVs. With only a slight premium of Rs 25,000 over the standard variants, Hector's prices now span between Rs 13.98 lakh and Rs 21.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hector Plus, on the other hand, is available from Rs 16.99 lakh to Rs 22.67 lakh (ex-showroom). Competitors for the Hector Blacksorm include the Tata Harrier/Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Creta/Alcazar.
