Teaser reveals swanky dual-tone wheels, an orange shade, and sleek connected LED tail lamps.
The India-specific model could get styling inspired by the UK model.
MG’s second EV for India is slated to arrive in early 2023 using heavily localised parts.
Should slot below the ZS EV with a more compact powertrain setup as a rival to the Nexon EV.
We know that MG Motor India is currently working on its second electric vehicle for the country, but details of it are pretty scarce at the moment. That being said, the carmaker has recently given us a sneak peak of a new electric vehicle that will debut in the UK around Q4 2022, which could give clues on what we can expect for the India-specific model.
Looking at the teaser video, the overall silhouette of the British EV seems to be that of a crossover. MG revealed that the new EV would measure 4,300mm in length. Elsewhere, we noticed the new EV being shod in an orange shade, with a few contrasting black bits on the doors as well as the roof. The dual-tone wheels (likely 17-inches) get quite the futuristic look, while a glimpse of the rear revealed sleek connected LED tail lamps.
Considering the ZS EV in India measures a little over 4,300mm, it's safe to say the upcoming India-specific EV will slot below it. This should also translate to a more compact powertrain setup than the ZS EV’s 145PS electric motor and 44.5kWh battery that helps offer a range of up to 419km.
While nothing is set and stone just yet, we can expect MG’s new EV for India to take some inspiration from the model being unveiled in the UK. The former will be arriving by early 2023 as a heavily localised model. Considering that MG Motor India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba mentioned that the new EV will cater to the mass market segment, prices should range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, India), putting it right in the ballpark of the Tata Nexon EV that retails from Rs 14,29 lakh to Rs 16.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
