Toyota re-entered the sub-4 metre SUV market with the Urban Cruiser Taisor, which is basically the rebadged Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The Taisor is also the crossover version of the Glanza hatchback, considering that it shares its roots with the hatchback. Given that the mid-spec S+ variant of the Taisor is priced very close to the top-spec V variant of the Glanza, there’s bound to be some cross-shopping between the two. So, which one makes a better value proposition? Let’s find out.

Rs 9.78 lakh (MT) - Rs 9.99 lakh (AMT) |
It is pretty evident from the pricing that the mentioned variants of the Taisor undercuts the Glanza. The difference between the manual S+ variant of the Taisor and manual V variant of the Glanza is of Rs 78,000 and the difference between the automatic variants is of Rs 46,000.

Considering that the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is a crossover based on its younger sibling, it is ever so slightly longer, wider and taller than the Toyota Glanza, That said, both models share the same wheelbase. It is worth noting that the boot space of the Glanza is marginally more than that of the Taisor.

Both the cars are well equipped with features, but here, the Glanza top-spec variant packs in numerous features over the ones found on the S+ variant of the Taisor. That includes a larger 9-inch infotainment screen, 360-degree camera, and even a Heads-Up display (HUD). On the safety front, the Taisor S+ gets just two frontal airbags, while the top-spec Glanza is equipped with 6 airbags.

Since both the cars use the same K-series 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, the power figures are also identical. Both these cars can be opted for with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission).
While both these cars provide an option of CNG, it is limited to the base E variant of the Taisor and mid-spec S and G variants of the Glanza. Moving a bit above the variant segment, there is an option of a 1-litre turbo petrol engine in the Taisor for those looking for an enthusiast-friendly engine option.
Finally, with both the cars offering features almost at par, it is totally up to the buyers which one would they prefer. Yes, the mid-spec Taisor might miss out on some of the niceties, but still comes packing with all the features one would need and has the novelty factor of an SUV. You’ll also save on a couple of bucks when compared to the top-end Glanza, which you can use to spruce up the car with additional accessories.
That said, if you intend to buy a feature-packed car within a similar budget, then the top-spec Toyota Glanza would be the way to go. Yes, it might not be an SUV, a body style that’s preferred in this day and age. But it still has similar comfort levels and offers more value for what it offers.
