In March 2023, carmakers are busy revamping their lineups to prepare for the upcoming BS6 phase II emission norms and E20 fuel compliance. In addition, we have some all-new models, such as the generation update for the Hyundai Verna, a facelift for a popular compact sedan and probably a new crossover in India.
Here’s the full list of all the cars confirmed or expected to be launched in India in March 2023.
The Verna’s segment rival, the City, will also get a minor facelift with a subtly redesigned grille, new alloys and revised bumpers on March 2. It’ll also get two new entry-level trims, SV (petrol) and V (hybrid), alongside feature updates such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and driver-assistance tech (ADAS) for the petrol-only model. Of course, the petrol and strong-hybrid powertrains will also be revised to meet the new emissions norms, but the oil burner will be ditched.
Hyundai’s popular sedan gets a next-generation model on March 21. It sports a sleeker Elantra-inspired design and should be a tad larger than the sedan it replaces. The 2023 Verna will also get its most powerful engine ever, the new, 160PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that’s also offered on the soon-to-be-launched, newly updated Alcazar SUV.

The Baleno-based Fronx is a snazzy-looking subcompact crossover that’s bringing back one of Suzuki’s much-loved engines, the 1-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol unit. The Fronx SUV is being retailed through Maruti’s premium Nexa dealerships, slotting between the Baleno hatch and Grand Vitara compact SUV.
Toyota’s trusty people mover, the second-gen Innova Crysta, will make a comeback after a brief break. This time around, the Crysta will be diesel-manual only, equipped with the 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine and five-speed manual ‘box (no automatic on offer). Here’s what its G, GX, VX and ZX variants pack:
April 2023 is the deadline that the Union government had set for carmakers to make their vehicles E20-ready and compliant with BS6 phase II emission norms. We expect all carmakers to update the powertrains in their respective lineups to be compatible with ethanol-blended fuel and the revised emission norms. This could also lead to the discontinuation of select models including some diesel cars, and we should see more of these rejigs and updates soon.
