German carmaker BMW is all set to launch the new-gen 2024 BMW 5 Series on our shores tomorrow. The luxury sedan will be offered in a long-wheelbase guise only and will directly rival the Mercedes E-Class LWB, whose latest generation is due to launch later this year. Bookings for the 2024 5 Series are already underway, and here are five things you need to know about it ahead of its price announcement tomorrow.
The design of the recent BMW offerings has received mixed views, and the story continues with the 2024 5 Series as well, which may take some time to grow on you. Upfront, it features a large signature kidney grille with golden vertical slats, and if that wasn’t bold enough, BMW has illuminated it. The grille is flanked by sleek but angular headlights, while the bumper has pronounced edges for a sharp look
Its profile is "LOONG," and its stretched size is evident by the distance between the wheels. BMW will offer the 2024 5 Series with two wheel-size options: 18-inch ten-spoke rims and 19-inch fourteen-spoke rims. And yes, no low profile tyres! It sports a sloping roofline, giving it a coupe-like appearance. Finally, the rear also sports an angular look with flat LED tail lamps, and a sporty diffuser effect on the bumper.
BMW has elevated the 5 Series interior with this new-gen model. It features a minimalist design with seamlessly integrated AC vents within the dashboard, and dual large screens for the infotainment system and digital driver's display. The extended wheelbase translates for better space for rear seat passengers, and BMW has used eco-friendly materials for the seat upholstery, steering wheel, and even door pads.
The new-gen 5 Series comes equipped with features such as a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, a heads-up display, a 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround sound system, type-C USB charging ports and four-zone climate control system.
Safety features include, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system and electronic aids like directly controlled wheel slip limitation, cornering brake assist, trailer stability control.
BMW will offer the 2024 5 Series initially in a single 530Li M Sport variant, which gets a turbo-petrol engine coupled with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine is a 2-litre twin-turbo unit generating 208 PS and 330 Nm. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission
We expect a diesel variant to be offered later down the line, which could feature a 2-litre engine producing 197 PS and 400 Nm.
It is expected that BMW will price the 2024 5 Series from around Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and Volvo S90.
