The long-wheelbase Thar will also get a three-row layout with more than five seats on offer
  • Longer Thar gets similar front-end styling as the three-door SUV.

  • To be powered by 2-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.

  • Debut expected sometime in 2023.

  • Likely to be priced from Rs 15 lakh onwards.

The Mahindra Thar’s five-door version has been spotted again, this time showing the front fascia of a camouflaged test mule. The upcoming SUV will offer a longer wheelbase and seating for more passengers than the existing three-door, four-seater Thar

In the latest spy shots, the Thar five-door’s front fascia sports familiar cues such as the vertically slatted front grille, round halogen headlights and chunky front bumper.

We already know from the previous that the long-wheelbase Thar will have up to three rows of seating and a similar rear fascia as the existing three-door model. Its underpinnings will be based on those of the Scorpio N’s ladder frame platform that’s stiffer than the existing Thar chassis.

Under the bonnet, the longer wheelbase Thar should get the same 2-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines paired with manual and automatic transmissions. The petrol and diesel units produce 150PS and 130PS, respectively, in the existing three-door Thar. However, the larger SUV could be tuned for more power.
