Dacia, Renault’s sister brand, has globally teased the next-gen Spring EV, which previews the next-gen Renault Kwid for our shores. While the Kwid is available only in petrol-powered variants in our market, international markets also get an EV variant. Here's what we can discern from the teased image of the Dacia Spring EV, updates that might make their way to the next-gen Renault Kwid.

The teased image doesn't provide any exterior design details, but we can expect the next-gen Kwid to feature significant exterior revisions. From the teased image, though, we can make out that the silhouette design is identical to the current-gen model. Currently, the Spring EV (Kwid EV) sold globally sports a slightly tweaked front grille, a different alloy wheel design, and slightly modified taillights with an LED DRL signature.

Renault Kwid Interior

Inside, the new Kwid is expected to showcase a revamped cabin, boasting a larger infotainment system and modern amenities including an updated digital driver’s display, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, and even automatic climate control. These updates will make a departure from the dated interior of the current Kwid.

Additionally, the safety features of the new-gen Kwid are expected to be upgraded, with additions such as six airbags. This would be an improvement over the current Kwid, which is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

In the powertrain department, the new-gen Kwid will likely feature an all-electric variant alongside a 68 PS/91 Nm 1-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. Though details on its electric powertrain are yet to be revealed, we think that the Kwid EV will offer a compelling entry-level option for EV buyers, providing an alternative to the Tiago EV and the eC3.

Considering the Kwid is one of Renault’s mainstays in their portfolio in India, the next-gen model is likely to make its way here post its unveiling. The new-gen Kwid is expected to command a notable premium over the current model, which is priced between Rs 4.69 lakh and Rs 6.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
