  • Likely to get petrol powertrains with electrification.

  • Will wear the new Skoda brand insignia.

  • India launch likely sometime in 2024.

  • Should come at a premium over the current-gen model’s Rs 37.5 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag.

The next-generation Skoda Kodiaq has been spied overseas for the first time, soon after the carmaker announced that it’ll debut in late 2023. The new Kodiaq is expected to arrive in India sometime in 2024.

Not much is known about the new Skoda Kodiaq yet, but the spy sighting overseas has revealed that the SUV has begun testing on public roads. Although the test mule is only partially camouflaged, it is evident that the upcoming 7-seater will be an all-new SUV that may even borrow certain design cues and features from the Vision 7S concept.

It should also get a reworked interior with feature additions, such as the concept SUV’s practical sliding second row middle seat, haptic rotary gear knobs and portrait-syle touchscreen.

The Kodiaq is already well-equipped with features such as a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats and a premium 12-speaker sound system. Its safety kit includes nine airbags, stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera and park assist.

In India, the Kodiaq is currently offered with a 2-litre turbo petrol engine tuned for 190PS and 320Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The next-gen SUV could get the same engine, but with some electrification, possibly a mild-hybrid system.

For now, the Skoda Kodiaq costs between Rs 37.49 lakh and Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom), but expect the next-gen model to be pricier still. It’ll rekindle rivalries with the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster SUVs, offering a more commodious, if no longer more affordable, alternative to premium SUVs such as the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and Volvo XC40.
