Okinawa claims the upcoming Oki100 will be 100 per cent localised
- The Li-ion battery will be imported though.
- Oki100 was unveiled at Auto Expo 2018.
- It has a claimed top speed of 100kmph.
Okinawa has revealed that it will launch its first electric motorcycle, the Oki100, by the third quarter of FY 2020-2021 i.e. by the end of this year. The electric bikemaker has also announced that the Oki100 will be 100 per cent localised, which means it should be priced competitively.
Okinawa claims the motorcycle will be 100 per cent localised but it also says the lithium-ion battery pack will be imported. India does not have a manufacturing source for lithium-ion battery packs and these are currently imported from China. While the lithium-ion battery pack is the most expensive component in an electric two-wheeler, we do not expect the Oki100 to be priced drastically high on account of heavy localisation. The Oki100 is likely to be priced a shade below Rs 1 lakh.
Along with the Oki100, Okinawa will also launch the Cruiser electric maxi-scooter this year. Get more details about the Okinawa Cruiser here.
