Maruti Suzuki has announced that it has sold over 10 lakh automatic transmission-equipped cars on our roads. The carmaker currently offers four types of automatic gearboxes: a 5-speed AMT, 4-speed torque converter, 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and the e-CVT.

Back in 2014, Maruti launched the automated manual transmission (AMT) system. This lowered the price difference between a manual and an automatic transmission. It is nothing but the existing manual gearbox whose clutch and gears are automatically actuated.

Maruti has also released some interesting statistics regarding the sales percentage of automatic transmissions. Over 65 percent units sold were the AMT, and 27 percent units account for the torque converter-equipped models. The e-CVT consists of 8 percent of all the automatic sales.

Furthermore, Arena customers tend to prefer ATs in mid variants, while the Nexa customers want the automatics in the higher-end trims. The Nexa outlets contribute to 58 percent of all automatic sales, while the Arena showrooms contribute the balance 42 percent.
