Over 700 People Are Booking Maruti Jimny In A Single Day Since Bookings Opened

• Maruti has garnered around 16,500 orders for the Jimny since its debut.

• Over 700 people have been putting down their money to book the SUV daily.

• There are two available variants: Zeta and Alpha.

• Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4x4 system is offered as standard.

• Expected to be priced from around Rs 10 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). 

The Jimny has garnered the response that Maruti hoped it would, so much so that the 4x4 SUV is getting over 700 orders on a daily basis. The high demand has piled up the orders to around 16,500 units and this shouldn't come as a shock, considering how well its chief rival, the Mahindra Thar, has been received and is continuing to do so. In fact, the Thar, when it was launched, had no chief rival; and as a result, had its order books climbing up much faster than the Jimny’s. 

The carmaker opened the bookings for the Jimny on January 12, the same day the SUV made its global debut at Auto Expo 2023, and It can be had in two trim options: Zeta and Alpha trim. In the top-spec, the Jimny packs quite a few creature comforts including a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with Arkamys-tuned audio system, climate control, cruise control and keyless entry. Its safety kit gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold and descent control as standard. 

There’s a single 104PS/134Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine, which can be paired to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is standard and there’s also a low-range gearbox on offer.

A price reveal for the Jimny should just be around the corner and you can expect a price tag starting from around Rs 10 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). It’ll offer a more practical alternative to stalwart off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha thanks to its five-door layout. However, both its rivals will be getting five-door iterations down the road.
