The diesel option is a 2.4-litre unit producing 150PS.
Diesel variants were priced between Rs 17.58 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Bookings for the diesel variant of the MPV were suspended in August.
Will be sold alongside the new Innova Hycross.
The recent debut of the new generation Toyota Innova Hycross in India with its more upmarket and premium appeal and styling has a few people worried. Even though the new Innova gets a strong hybrid powertrain that keeps the fuel efficiency in check, the new technology will come at a steeper price tag and that’s a bit worrisome for those wanting a frugal package.
But there’s nothing to worry about as the new Innova will be available alongside the Innova Crysta and even though bookings for the diesel-powered Crysta have been halted for a while, the oil burner variants will soon be brought back to life. So, for those who’ll be having heavy usage, the Crysta diesel will serve you as a frugal option.

The diesel engine in question is a 2.4-litre unit with an output of 150PS. Transmission options for it include a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox. Another powertrain option is a 166PS 2.7-litre petrol one. The Innova Crysta, irrespective of the engine underneath, sends the drive to the rear wheels only. The diesel returns a claimed fuel economy figure of 15.57kmpl, while the petrol offers a 10.5kmpl.
These numbers are comparatively lesser than the Hycross’ 21.1kmpl mileage for the strong-hybrid option, but we’ll know how it performs in the real world after a road test, so stay tuned.

Before Toyota closed the order books on the diesel Innova Crysta, it used to retail it between Rs 17.58 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The comeback of the diesel could witness a rejig in the variants list of the MPV. The Innova Crysta will continue to indirectly compete with the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo, Kia Carens and Carnival MPVs, while the new generation Innova Hycross will be a more premium alternative.
