TVS’ First Cruiser Could Be Called Ronin

Contrary to what the rumours have been, the upcoming cruiser from TVS could be named Ronin.

A leaked brochure scan suggests that the production version of the TVS Zeppelin concept cruiser could be called the Ronin and not Zeppelin R.

In fact, the name was trademarked back in May 2020.

 TVS has had a history of having different names for the concept and production models. The Akula Concept became the TVS Apache RR 310, Draken Concept became the TVS Apache RTR 200 and the Graphite Concept became the TVS NTorq 125. Hence, it looks plausible for TVS to name the cruiser Ronin than retain the concept’s name.

We expect the cruiser to get a 220cc single-cylinder engine, which could be possibly derived (and rebored) from the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. While the concept featured a 5-speed gearbox, we hope TVS uses a 6-speed unit. And going by how feature-rich TVS products have been lately, the cruiser might get riding modes, smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and TVS’ Glide Through Traffic (GTT) technology as standard. 

As for the underpinnings, the Ronin could be equipped with USD forks and a monoshock. Meanwhile, the braking hardware is expected to comprise a single disc at both ends with dual-channel ABS. We expect TVS to price the cruiser around Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go up against the likes of Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise and the Keeway K-Light 250V. TVS plans to launch it on the 6th of July.

That leaves us as to what the Zeppelin R could be. Could it be a sportier concept version of the Zeppelin that TVS might unveil in the future? We’ll have to wait and see.
