Chinese brand QJMotor, the parent company of Benelli, has type-approved the production of its first electric sports bike, the QJMotor RX. Furthermore, given the relationship between QJMotor and Benelli, there’s a good chance that the RX will eventually be restyled and appear carrying a Benelli badge.
According to a leaked render of the production concept, the bike has an eagle inspired sharp fascia, accentuated by the side fairing sitting flush with the nose. This aggressive design language is further sharpened thanks to the remarkably slim, highly angled subframe of the bike that emphasises the space between the seat and the rear wheel in typical supersport fashion. The motorcycle has been type-approved with a 5kW electric motor that QJMotor claims can produce 13.6PS which allows for a top speed of 105 kmph. However, details about the battery pack or expected range still aren’t available. The claimed power output and top speed is definitely impressive enough for an entry-level electric supersport.
A closer look at the render reveals a foot-operated gear shifter and a clutch lever on the handlebar. That’s odd for an electric bike, as most are single-speed that do not need to disengage the motor from the transmission, even at a standstill. A chain drive too is clearly visible here, which is not commonly found on an electric bike, as they’re mostly belt-driven, to reduce noise.
It definitely would be refreshing to have this electric sports bike in the Indian market with Benelli or Keeway badging, however given the high import duties, it looks doubtful that the QJMotor RX will find its way to our shores. Meanwhile if you’re looking for an electric motorcycle in India, you can check out the Oben Rorr and Revolt RV400.
