The French carmaker achieved this significant sales feat after nearly a decade and a half in the country

  • Renault has crossed the 9 lakh sales mark in India.

  • This milestone was achieved after nearly 15 years of operations in the country.

  • Future plans include a Hyundai-Creta rivaling compact SUV.

  • New-gen Renault Duster to make a comeback sometime around 2025.

  • Current portfolio includes 3 cars: Kwid, Kiger and Triber.

Renault, the French carmaker, has surpassed the 9 lakh sales milestone in the country. The carmaker first came to India in 2005 and came out with its first product, the Logan sedan, in 2007 by joining hands with Mahindra. What a journey it has been for the carmaker since then, with more than a few hits that literally shaped new segments in the market.

When the carmaker set out to continue its Indian journey solo, it brought upmarket products like the Koleos and Fluence, which sadly didn’t really kick off to the same extent as the segment shapers like the Duster and Kwid did. Then there’s the Triber, a three-row MPV with the length of a conventional sub-4m SUV, which offered a unique proposition for people looking for an affordable MPV.

As of today, the carmaker has three offerings on sale in India: the Kwid hatchback, Kiger sub-4m SUV, and the Triber sub-4m MPV. And while this isn’t the widest portfolio in the market, the coming years will be crucial for the French marque as it plans to introduce heavily localised products, including a Hyundai-Creta rivaling compact SUV, as part of its Nissan-affiliated strategy for India starting from 2025.

The future for Renault could also hold the comeback of the widely loved Duster SUV in its new-gen avatar. It too is expected to arrive sometime in 2025 and is completing its testing currently, but the rendered images have us really excited ahead of its official debut.

The Kwid, which starts at Rs 4.69 lakh, is the most affordable product in Renault’s lineup, while the Kiger’s top-spec trim, which retails at Rs 11.22 lakh, is the most expensive of the entire range.
