Renault and Nissan have revealed their brand strategy for the coming years.
New shared SUVs in the plans, could include the Duster.
Shared A-segment, mass market EVs also in the plans.
Nissan to introduce Renault Triber-based MPV in India.
The Renault-Nissan Group has revealed exciting prospects for India in its latest brand strategy announcement for global markets. It has been a while since we saw new launches from both carmakers, but that’s about to change soon.
Carmakers Renault and Nissan will work closely on shared models for India that include new compact SUVs, a Nissan MPV based on the Renault Triber and a new compact electric vehicle (EV) shared by both carmakers.

The two carmakers plan to “collaborate on several new vehicle projects including new SUVs shared by both Renault Group and Nissan,” states the press release. We expect Renault to bring the third-generation Duster to India, which is still under the works.
For reference, the Indian market got the first iteration of the SUV, while the second-generation model was skipped. If the Duster is one of the SUVs in the plans, its badge-engineered Nissan version should also be on the cards.
In the Indian and Latin American markets, Renault-Nissan plans to introduce A-segment, or compact, entry-level EVs built on the CMF-A EV common module family platform. We aren’t sure what the carmaker’s first EV for India will be, but it’s likely to be a model for the masses with an affordable price tag. Also, the carmaker showcased the Kwid EV back at Auto Expo 2020, but it still isn’t confirmed what electric vehicle will be first launched in India.
Given that the Triber has brought Renault reasonable success, it only makes sense for Nissan to put on sale its own version of the people mover. We expect the Nissan compact MPV to be a heavily localised, affordable product in the same segment the Renault Triber sits in. While its styling will be different, underneath the skin, both models will have plenty in common.
We only have an overview of Renault-Nissan’s plans available right now, and the launch timeline for the above models is yet to be revealed. Also, Nissan showcased its global models – X-Trail, Qashqai and Juke SUVs – and will be testing the first two models to see if they will be an apt fit for the Indian market.
