BE 6e and XEV 9e

Mahindra has revealed its two new electric SUVs in India, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, with prices starting at Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Based on the EV-specific INGLO platform, the electric SUVs feature a lot of tech, including Level 2+ autonomy. While the architecture supports an all-wheel drive setup, Mahindra did not disclose any details about it at launch. That said, let us shed some light on the known specifications of the XEV 9e and BE 6e.

It is to be noted that Mahindra is offering lifetime battery warranty for the first registered owners. In the case of ownership transfer, the lifetime warranty will be curtailed to 10 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first from the first ever date of delivery of the vehicle.

Platform & Powertrain

BE 6e and XEV 9e

Both the BE 6e and XEV 9e sit on the new INGLO platform – a dedicated electric vehicle  (EV) architecture. Unlike traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) platforms used for many EVs, this is a flat-floor skateboard platform, offering more cabin space, frunk (front trunk), and low centre of gravity for improved stability and handling.

The platform can also accommodate a single-motor and dual-motor, and can house batteries ranging from 59kWh to 79kWh. The BE 6e and XEV 9e use LFP (Lithium Ion Phosphate) battery technology, which is known for its longevity and safety. Plus, the INGLO supports up to 175kW DC fast charging, which can charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in 20 minutes. At launch, the BE 6e and XEV 9e are available only with a rear-wheel drive option.

Now, here are model-specific powertrain specifications that Mahindra revealed at launch. Both the cars are available with a 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery pack. With the BE 6e, it has a claimed range of 550 km (WLTP, inhouse test) when opted with the 79 kWh unit. Whereas, the battery pack provides a claimed range of 533 km (WLTP, inhouse test) with the XEV 9e.

There are three driving modes on offer, namely Everyday, Range, and Race. On paper, both the EVs are rather quick as well, with the 0-100kmph sprint taking a claimed 6.7 seconds for the BE 6e and 6.8 seconds for the XEV 9e.

Key Features

BE 6e and XEV 9e

The Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e also boast brake-by-wire and semi-active suspension. The brake-by-wire system electronically controls the braking process. Whereas, semi-active suspension adjusts the shock absorbers’ damping force in real-time based on the inputs from sensors that actively monitor changing road conditions.

Apart from the impressive specifications, both EVs come with plenty of new tech and comfort features, all of which have been detailed in our reveal stories. To brew your interest even further, key highlights include multiple digital screens, moonroof, ventilated and powered seats, Level 2+ ADAS, heads-up display featuring augmented reality, and 360-degree camera.

WIth the surprising prices, the new Mahindra BE 6e will compete against the likes of the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, BYD Atto 3, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. Whereas, the Mahindra XEV 9e does not have a direct rival in the market yet. Most notably, Mahindra is likely to reveal full prices of the electric SUVs in January 2025.
