- The bike seems like a working concept and will be unveiled on November 4, 2024

We’ll get to see Royal Enfield’s first electric bike in a few week’s time, which is pretty exciting in itself. But before that, some recent spy shots have given us a pretty good peek at how it looks and what it gets.

Most of the details seen in these spy shots were already revealed when its patent image was leaked a few months ago. Expectedly, Royal Enfield has given the electric bike a retro styling with the round LED headlight and the teardrop-shaped panels resembling an ICE-powered bike’s fuel tank. The bit that drives the retro angle of the bike hard are the girder forks, which seem like a nostalgic nod to the Royal Enfield Flying Flea motorcycles used during World War 2.

The battery pack below the ‘tank’ looks quite huge and non-removable, which means the bike should have a more than decent range output (around 100km) for commuting on a daily basis and some short weekend rides. The indicators are mounted on the handlebar and the bike gets round, retro-style mirrors. The seat height looks very accessible and the ample ground clearance seen in the photos should make it friendly for Indian road conditions. The instrument console’s shape doesn’t look similar to any consoles seen on current Royal Enfield bikes. Since an EV’s console needs to display a lot more information about the battery percentage and range compared to the conventional info on an ICE-powered bike’s console, it makes sense for Royal Enfield to give its electric bike an entirely new unit.

The Royal Enfield electric bike gets alloy wheels and disc brakes. The adjustable peg sliders seen on the pictures are most likely to test various ergonomics setups and the motor is also used as a stressed member. Other details spotted include rotary switches, a split cradle frame and an aluminium swingarm with a monoshock.

Having said all this, it seems like the bike spotted in the pictures is most likely a working concept and Royal Enfield is currently focusing on testing the EV powertrain in this frame. In the final production version, the girder fork should give way to a traditional suspension setup (likely to be an inverted fork) to keep costs and weight in check. The concept will be unveiled on November 4, 2024 as announced by the manufacturer in its social media handle more than a week ago.
