Royal Enfield has unveiled the Scram 440 in India, and the bike has undergone a few key updates to keep it relevant in the current market. Here’s a breakdown of how the new bike differs from the old Scram 411.
The main difference between the new Royal Enfield Scram 440 and the old Scram 411 is the engine. The Scram 440 now gets a larger 443cc, air and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 25.4PS at 6,250rpm and 34Nm at 4,000rpm.
Compared to the Scram 411, this is an increase in power of 1.2PS and 2Nm.
The Scram 440 has also seen the addition of updated braking hardware. The front disc now gets a larger piston front caliper which in theory should improve the braking performance.
The brand claims that the front brake will now be more responsive and will bring the bike to a stop much quicker.
One of the biggest complaints many riders had with the Royal Enfield Scram 411 was the lack of switchable ABS. This was something already offered on the Himalayan 411, back when the bike was still around.
The lack of switchable ABS took away from the Scram 411’s offroading capabilities but now Royal Enfield had addressed this issue. With switchable ABS at the rear, the Scram 440 can do controlled slides, and this will make it a better off-roader.
The Scram 411 was only offered in spoke wheels and these were good for riding offroad. But dealing with flat tyres was an issue many riders had to put up with.
Now with the introduction of alloy wheels, riders who aren’t hardcore offroaders won’t have to worry about getting flat tyres.
Along with all the changes listed above, the Scram 411 also gets a few updates to its list of accessories.
The bike now comes with a new top box and panniers as optional accessories similar to what is offered on the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
The Scram 440, although now features a lot of changes, still remains the same when it comes to looks. The underpinnings are also similar, with both the bikes getting the same 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup.
Braking duties are taken care of by a 300mm front and 240mm rear disc setup with dual-channel ABS.
