(Update: The all-new Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 has been launched. Check the details in our launch story here.)
It was just a couple of weeks ago that we last caught sight of Royal Enfield’s upcoming bobber motorcycle, the Shotgun 650, undergoing testing on the roads near the company’s factory in Tamil Nadu. Now again, it was spotted in Chennai, and the bike looks like it’s almost production ready, all set to hit showrooms later this year.
The Shotgun 650 is based on the SG650 concept that Royal Enfield had showed off at EICMA 2021, and this production bike seems to be built on the Super Meteor 650 platform. Clearly visible is the upside-down fork, the massive rear disc brake and even the chassis look rather similar to that of the Super Meteor. Compared to the Super Meteor though, the Shotgun has mid-set footpegs for a more upright riding position.
What’s very clearly visible in this sighting is the twin-pod instrument cluster which seems to have been taken straight from the Super Meteor and houses an analogue speedometer in the larger pod, along with a digital inset for the fuel gauge, gear position indicator, trip meter, odometer, etc. The smaller pod houses Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation system, which provides turn-by-turn navigation by connecting to the rider’s smartphone.
When launched, The Shotgun 650 will be the fourth motorcycle on RE’s 650cc twin platform, after the Interceptor 650, Continental GT650 and the Super Meteor 650. The Shotgun will also use the same 649cc air/oil-cooled parallel-twin motor from the other 650s, and will make an identical 47.6PS and 52Nm.
From what we understand though, the Shotgun 650 will be launched around October 2023, as the next expected launches from the Chennai-based company are the J-platform-based Bullet 350 and the all-new Himalayan 450, which should be out by July-August of this year.
