RWD Mahindra Thar’s Day Out In The City

The day started with a drive to the lakeside for a mesmerizing view of the sunrise. While this is the Thar 4x2, rough roading is still a piece of cake. 

As the sun started to shine brighter, we headed towards the city for some quintessential Irani breakfast. The Thar’s 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine lets it cruise effortlessly on the highways. 

The new centre console switches feel more premium and have a tactile feel. This makes using them while driving more ergonomic. 

Irani Cafe is becoming a landmark for Pune’s early risers. Good tea and great conversations over the view of your car. For us, it was the Thar and the topic of discussion was personalisation and customisations. 

With breakfast done, it was time for a fun activity. We decided to head to Pune’s Trampoline park. This meant driving through the city. The Thar’s great all-around visibility and high seating position helps you feel at ease even when in more crowded situations.

On the way, we found a graffiti wall and could not simply pass on the photo opportunity.

Thar now comes with an auto engine start/stop. This tech not only helps increase efficiency but also reduces emissions. 

Also, with the 4x4 shift lever gone, you have a large enough pocket to keep even Nabeel’s ginormous cell phone. This, combined with the large open storage in the centre console makes the Thar’s cabin a very practical one. 

Next on the list was go-karting at Pune’s famous circuit - Pune Kartdrome. The Sun was setting and the lights were coming on. While this meant our day with the Thar was over, the action had just begun. 

With the two-wheel-drive variant, the Thar has become more affordable and feels like the obvious choice if you are looking for a lifestyle vehicle which will see more tarmac than dirt.
