Skoda Names Its Upcoming Sub-4 Metre SUV The Kylaq

The Czech carmaker conducted a naming contest for christening this model, where the final one was selected out of 10 shortlisted names
Skoda India has announced that its upcoming sub-4 metre SUV for our market will be called the Kylaq. The Czech carmaker conducted a naming contest to select the name of the Kylaq, where over two lakh people participated in it. 10 names were shortlisted, out of which the final one was selected today.
The moniker fits Skoda’s traditional ICE SUV nomenclature, that starts with the letter ‘K’ and ends with the letter ‘Q’, as we’ve seen with the Kushaq and Kodiaq SUVs. Skoda says ‘It (the name Kylaq) is derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal, reflecting both the vehicle’s pristine qualities and inspiration.’

Skoda Kylaq: Overview
The upcoming Skoda Kylaq will be the Czech carmaker’s first ever offering in the much popular sub-4 metre SUV segment. It will be based on a shortened version of the MQB A0 IN platform that underpins the Kushaq and Slavia. Earlier, teasers have confirmed that the sub-4 metre SUV will be getting design elements such as split LED headlights and Kushaq-like LED tail lamps. Skoda Kylaq: Features Onboard
The upcoming Skoda Kylaq will sit in a segment where features are given top priority. So one can expect it to come loaded with equipment such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, cruise control and keyless entry with push button start.
On the safety front, it’s likely to get six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, electronic stability control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Skoda Kylaq: Engine Options
The Skoda Kylaq is expected to come with just one engine option – the 115 PS 1-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine from the Slavia and Kushaq. You can expect it to be offered with either a 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Skoda Kylaq: Expected Price And Rivals
One can expect the upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV to be priced from around Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
