The new Skoda Slavia is off to a good start in India, racking up over 10,000 bookings since reservations began on November 18. The Honda City challenger is priced from Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom) and is offered in three broad trims: Active, Ambition, and Style. Skoda offers you a choice of two petrol engines, both paired with manual and automatic transmissions.
The Slavia is the second Skoda car to be based on the localised MQB-A0-IN platform. It’s offered with either a 115PS 1-litre engine or a more powerful 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Both engines are fun-to-drive, especially when mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. But for convenience, there’s an option of a 6-speed torque converter with the 1-litre, and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with the 1.5 mill.
In terms of features, the sedan gets all bases covered with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 8-inch digital driver’s display, connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, an 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer, ventilated front seats, and a single-pane sunroof.

Passenger safety is taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold assist.

The sedan locks horns with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus.
