The elongated version of the SUV has been spied on Indian roads for the first time.
Could be known as the Gypsy in India.
Maruti could offer it with a nine-inch infotainment system and a 360-degree camera.
To be equipped with Suzuki’s 1.5-litre DualJet engine with four-wheel ride option.
1.4-litre turbocharged petrol also on the cards, no diesel.
The five-door Jimny is slated for launch real soon as it was spied testing in India for the first time. Until now, we had spy shots of the SUV while it was being tested in Europe. However, this time, the test mule spotted is a right-hand-drive model sporting an ‘HR’ number plate, that hints towards an India debut very soon. It is also likely that Maruti will reincarnate the ‘Gypsy’ nameplate and use it in place of the ‘Jimny’ tag for sales in India.
It is a no-brainer that the five-door Jimny will be larger than its three-door iteration with a longer wheelbase and five doors instead of three. While the snapped car doesn’t give out much, we do get a look at its alloy wheels. The overall silhouette of the SUV, its upright stance and boxy proportions remains unchanged, but the 5-door Jimny is expected to preview minor facelift at the time of its launch for the 3-door model.
Going by the earlier spy shots, the cabin of the SUV is likely to be similar to the three-door Jimny apart from the larger nine-inch infotainment system that will replace the seven-inch touchscreen unit. Its features are likely to be on par with the features list of new Marutis that come with a 360-degree camera, sunroof, up to six airbags and more. Obviously, space in the second row will be considerably more than the three-door version, thanks to the longer wheelbase, which could also translate to a larger boot.

Powertrain options for the 5-door Jimny are under wraps but we expect it to be propelled using the same 1.5-litre DualJet petrol mill along with the mild-hybrid tech as on the recently launched Marutis. Transmission options should include both manual and automatic units. We expect the SUV to come with optional four-wheel drive. It could also get a 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol unit with an output of 140PS.
The five-door Maruti Jimny could make its debut at the Auto Expo in January 2023 and will likely be retailed through Maruti’s NEXA outlets with a price tag of around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It'll be Maruti's contendor against the likes of the five-door Thar and five-door Force Gurkha.
