Patent images of what could be the Suzuki Intruder 250 have surfaced online. Suzuki had already hinted at the arrival of the Intruder 250 back in 2019 itself, in fact, it was earlier expected to be launched at Auto Expo 2020. Now taking the pandemic into account, we can expect the Japanese brand to launch the bike either by the end of 2020 or early-2021.
Going by the patent images, the Suzuki Intruder 250’s design language is quite similar to the smaller Intruder 150. We aren’t surprised as Suzuki did the same thing with the Gixxer 150 and Gixxer 250. However, one major difference is the shape of the exhaust system. Its curvy design looks a lot better than the angular twin exit units in the 150. Another interesting change is that it features an engine cowl which is absent in the BS6-compliant Intruder 150.
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 as well as the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 have been developed specifically for the Indian market. It features a 249cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine with a unique oil cooling. This motor churns out 26.5PS at 9300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7300rpm. It is linked to a 6-speed transmission. Expect Suzuki to plonk in the same engine on the Intruder 250 as well. If we’re lucky, Suzuki might just tune the engine or tweak the gearing to suit the cruiser character of the Intruder.
Underpinnings like the telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, and disc brakes on both ends are expected to be carried over from the Gixxer 250 twins. Expect the bike to pack a full-LED headlamp and tail lamp, and a fully digital instrument cluster.
We’d have liked it if Suzuki had designed the Intruder 250 to be more in line with its bigger brother, the Intruder M1800R. Or at the very least, the rear section design could’ve been a lot more coherent. That said, these are still patent images and we hope the bike looks good in the flesh. Suzuki could price the Intruder 250 at around Rs 1.80 lakh. It will go up against the Royal Enfield Bullet 350, Bajaj Dominar 250, and Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise.
